“A terrorist attack near the U.S. consulate in Peshawar, Pakistan killed two consulate security guards and at least four others Monday, authorities said.

The two consulate employees who died were Pakistani, the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad said, and ‘a number of others were seriously wounded.’

At least six people were killed in all, a government official said.

The coordinated attack involved a vehicle suicide bomb and attackers who tried to enter the consulate by using grenades and weapons fire, the U.S. Embassy said in a statement.

“Twin blasts rocked Lahore today, hitting a high-security military district and killing at least 39 people.

Unconfirmed reports put the death toll at up to 50, while more than 95 people were injured.

The attacks, close to each other, struck a busy market inside the Lahore cantonment, home of the local army garrison. The suicide attackers appeared to target passing army vehicles, with six soldiers reportedly among the dead.

“Six Pakistani employees of the American Christian charity World Vision were gunned down Wednesday, and seven others were wounded in an attack on the aid group’s offices in a remote village in northern Pakistan. “

Pakistani authorities said about a dozen masked militants stormed the building at about 9:30 a.m., pulled the staff members out of their offices and herded them into a single room, then started shooting indiscriminately. The attackers set off a bomb as they left, destroying the offices, which are located in North-West Frontier Province, in the village of Oghi, near the disputed region of Kashmir.

“A suicide car bombing at a building that houses terrorism investigations in Lahore killed at least 13 people and wounded 80 others Monday, the first terrorist strike to hit a major city in the country’s heartland this year.

The blast targeted a special investigative unit that interrogates key terrorism suspects. The entire building had collapsed from the force of the blast, and rescuers spent the morning searching for survivors in the rubble.

Lahore’s administrative chief, Khusro Pervez, said the bomber had crashed through a security gate before ramming a perimeter wall and detonating his explosives. More than 1,100 pounds of explosives were used in the attack, police said.

“Pakistani officials say three people are dead after an explosion rocks a vehicle in the country’s volatile northwest near the Afghan border.

Local government official Wazir Gul and two intelligence officials say Monday’s blast in the North Waziristan tribal area was caused by a missile fired from a U.S. drone and identified the three killed as militants.”
