DHS Warns Metro About Threat

The Department of Homeland Security warned Metro about an unconfimed threat to the D.C. Metro system on Sunday.

NBC4 obtained an internal memo from Homeland Security about the concern. Someone traveled to Turkey last July to obtain a U.S. visa to come to the States to blow up an unspecified Metro station, the memo said.”

U.A.E. Officials Confirm Terror Attack on Tanker

“Investigators in the United Arab Emirates have concluded that an Omani suicide bomber in an explosives-laden motorboat attacked a Japanese-owned oil tanker last week as it traveled through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, according to a person familiar with the investigation.

The U.A.E. is the first government to confirm that the mysterious July 28 incident, which dented the tanker’s hull and slightly injured one of its crew, was a terrorist attack.”

Mexico drug gangs seeking to replace state

“Mexican President Felipe Calderon has warned that drug gangs are seeking to replace the state and impose their own law in parts of the country.

The traffickers were intimidating and extorting communities, he said.

But Mr Calderon, speaking at the end of a three-day anti-crime conference, said the fight against gangs must continue despite rising violence.

UN Security Situation in Darfur Worsens as Peace Talks Progress

“UNAMID chief Ibrahim Gambari told the U.N. Security Council that talks between Sudan and the Liberation and Justice Movement are making steady progress. But he said the continued absence from the negotiations of two major armed movements is ‘deeply unfortunate.’

Gambari told the Security Council that despite considerable efforts by UNAMID, the security situation in Darfur has not improved since last month when he described it as ‘dire.’ Gambari said fighting between Sudanese government forces and the Justice and Equality Movement continues to be a major source of insecurity in several parts of Darfur. “

Al Qaeda Message: Ayman Zawahiri Threatens US Attacks

“Al Qaeda’s second in command Ayman Al-Zawahiri has surfaced again, this time threatening more attacks against the U.S. and the West.

‘Oh American people…We offered you a peace plan, and mutual benefit; but your governments were proud and haughty, and so the attacks against you followed one after another, everywhere – from Indonesia to Times Square, by way of Madrid and London. And the attacks are ongoing, and more will come one after another,’ said Zawahiri, according to a transcript provided by the Middle East Media Research Institute, based in Washington, DC.
